Ilderton Curling Club
Home of Champions … Past, Present and Future
Closed for the 2020-2021 Season
Hello Ilderton Curlers,
Thank you for your patience as we worked through the announcement by the Middlesex London Health Unit on November 19th and the new Provincial Covid Health Measures.
As I write this letter we are sitting in the Yellow “Protect” level of public health measures but with Covid cases/numbers increasing daily it’s been announced that we are moving to Orange “Restrict” level on Monday December 7th 2020. The Middlesex Health Unit also announced that they would not be amending any of their current health orders to ease the numbers allowed for indoor sport but have added additional measures which affect the number of people we can have on the ice at one time. Currently under their additional measures we would be allowed to have multiple groups on the ice but that each group would need to be separated by a minimum of 9 feet, which in our setting would mean we could only run two sheets of ice at a time.
The Board of Directors has been working hard to develop a plan that would allow us to open in January 2021 but it was contingent on the ability to run all four sheets of ice and unfortunately without these changes we just cannot financially make our plan work. At our meeting on December 1st 2020 the difficult decision was made and a motion was passed that the club would remain closed for the remainder of the 2020-2021 season. I would like you all to know that your Board worked hard to develop a plan that would minimize the financial risk, provide safe measures to curl and enjoy some time in the lounge after the game. Thank you to all members of the Board, to Lynn Baker & the Return to Play Committee and to Peter Zukowski & Ian MacKinnon for all their hardwork.
While the club will remain closed, we won’t escape the season without expenses and I want to remind you that with our involvement in the National Sports Trust Fund any donations made to our club to assist with our shortfalls this season and the installation of the HRV Unit in the lounge will be eligible for a tax receipt. Thank you to those who have already made donations, we are currently sitting at $800.00 in donations. The following link can also be found on club Facebook page and website.
During the coming months the Board will continue to meet and plan for the coming season, we want you all to know that there will be curling in Ilderton for the 2021-2022 season should COVID 19 not get in the way. We encourage you to follow us on Facebook and watch for information to come across your inboxes. On behalf of the board I would like to wish you all the best this holiday season, stay safe, wash your hands, practice social distancing & avoid all gatherings outside of your household. We hope to see you back on the ice in October 2021!
